People are spending hours, even a whole day at home in the shower. What’s behind this trend of turning our bathrooms into personal spas? It’s not just a shower; it’s an experience, a phenomenon that has us amassing beauty products at home like we’re stocking our own mini beauty supply stores. Join me as we unravel the secrets of the ‘everything shower’—a delightful, perhaps slightly obsessive, self-care journey that’s taking bathrooms by storm. Jump to your everything shower guide!
The ‘everything shower’ is the supreme self-care ritual you can indulge in at home. It’s a holistic approach to pampering yourself, accessible to anyone on any budget. All it requires is a bit of time and a commitment to self-love. They can be both soothing and renewing with many using them as time to unwind, use luxurious bath products, and just have some alone time.
Rather than feeling chained to the bathroom for hours, I prefer to break my everything shower into smaller, enjoyable segments, creating a mini-retreat within the comforts of my home. I set up with some drinks, snacks, and entertainment, turning the mundane into a cozy experience.
Benefits of the Everything Shower:
Time for Indulgence: The everything shower is easily tailored to your own needs. It's an opportunity to relax, use your favourite bath products, and revel in some much needed tranquility. Soothing and Rejuvenating: The ritual can be both soothing and rejuvenating, providing a mental and physical escape from the stresses of daily life.
Basic Everything Shower Routine:
1. Preparation
- Apply a pre-shampoo hair and scalp oil. I usually put a plastic cap on to prevent mess and retain heat, helping the treatment work harder 🙂
- Set up the facial area with products, snacks, something to watch, and fresh PJs.
- Keep a big jug of water with fruit slices for hydration.
- Boost circulation with dry body brushing. Brush in long strokes towards the heart, starting at the feet. Apply gentle pressure. The goal is to stimulate the skin, not to scrub it off. For joints (elbows, knees), use gentle circular motions. When brushing your stomach, use a clockwise circular motion. This follows the natural direction of your intestines
2. Hair Care
- Wash hair twice starting with a clarifying, then with a moisturizing shampoo.
- Be sure to really massage the scalp. This helps break down product build up and stimulate blood circulation to the hair follicles, which may promote hair growth and overall scalp health.
- Get out of the shower and apply a hair mask or treatment.
- Let it do its work while you chill with entertainment.
- Return to the shower for conditioner application and rinse.
3. Body Care
- Use an antibacterial soap to wash the body, followed by a thorough rinse.
- Exfoliate with a body scrub, followed by rinsing.
- If you shave, do it now, then rinse again.
- Use your favorite scented body wash before leaving the shower.
- Towel dry, and apply a thick, heavy lotion on your feet.
- Apply body lotion all over, massaging it in mindfully.
- Seal with oil in dryer areas, such as elbows and knees.
- Put on PJs and take a break or continue with facial steps.
4. DIY Facial (for detailed instructions see my easy, at home facial post)
- Double cleanse face, exfoliate, and steam.
- Apply a face mask, rinse, and use toner.
- Follow up with a serum, rich moisturizer, and a relaxing face massage.
- Seal the routine with facial oil.
